You can browse public profiles without creating an account. Voting and sending reports require an essential browser cookie.

Information we use

When you vote, send a report, or take another action that needs to remember this browser, we create a random anonymous browser identifier in a signed cookie, valid for up to 180 days. Browsing public pages does not set this cookie. Anonymous votes use this identifier; only aggregate counts are public. Administrator sign-in uses a separate session cookie lasting up to 8 hours. Cloudflare may also set security cookies, including while you browse.

For abuse prevention, the service processes connection information and keeps a keyed, one-way representation of the IP address for rate limiting, including a daily limit on new votes for each profile from one network. This is not displayed publicly. Operational logs record request and error information; passwords, cookie values, report text, raw IP addresses, and report emails are excluded from application logs. Google Cloud and Cloudflare may separately retain IP addresses and other connection information in platform and security logs under their own policies.

News stories

When the news feature is on, Love or Diss lists recent public stories about catalog people. New stories are listed automatically from outlets’ public news feeds: we show the outlet’s own headline as published, with the outlet’s name and time next to it and a link to its article. Those headlines are the outlet’s words, not ours. An AI-assisted summary on an older story has the byline “Love or Diss summary” and is marked as AI-assisted. Some older stories also show public X posts, including the author’s name, handle, date and text, with a link to X. These cards load no X scripts or iframes; X receives your connection information if you follow a link. These older cards may be removed if the post is deleted or protected. Stories pass automated checks before they appear, and a person reviews them afterwards. We may correct or withdraw a story. Stories leave the live feed when their source window ends; a bookmarked page may stay readable as an archive. If something is wrong, request a correction.

Reports

Reports contain the text and optional profile slug and email you submit. Only administrators can view reports. They can mark a report resolved, reopen it, or permanently delete a resolved report by hand. A resolved report, including its text and any email, becomes eligible for deletion 90 days after it is resolved. An open report is kept until an administrator resolves it. Include an email only if you want us to be able to reply. Do not submit sensitive personal information.

Visit comparisons on this device

Remember visits is off until you turn it on here. When on, it stores public ranking snapshots in local storage for up to 30 days; these snapshots are not sent to our servers. Turn it off or use Clear visit history here to remove them.

During a browser tab’s session, a small list of profiles you voted on helps us check and display your saved participation. That list contains profile names in URL form, not your vote choices, and ends with the browser tab.

Accounts and comments

Comments are open on every profile. Read published comments without voting. Choose Love or Diss on that person to write a comment. Anyone can report a comment without voting. Posting does not require you to sign in with Google. An optional Google account provides account tools such as mutes. If you do sign in with Google, Google confirms it is you and tells our server your Google account identifier and whether your email is verified. We store that identifier, a random public handle, account status and settings. Only the public handle is shown to other visitors. Your Google name, email address and photo are never shown and are not stored with your comments.

Signing in sets an essential session cookie that lasts up to 5 days. Signing out, or “Sign out everywhere” on your account page, ends the session. Deleting your account or signing out everywhere needs a fresh Google sign-in from the last 5 minutes.

Ordinary comments are published immediately. Detected spam is held for review. Clear threats and private information are held for review before publication. Held and hidden comments are visible only to you and to our reviewers. Held comments become eligible for removal after 14 days without review. Hidden comments become eligible for removal 30 days after they were hidden: their text is removed, and a record without the text is eligible for deletion after another 30 days for moderation history. Signed-in authors can appeal a hidden comment once from the account page; guest comments cannot be appealed, but you can send a private report. An open appeal pauses removal of that hidden comment and its report and appeal records for up to 90 days; after a decision, the usual 30 days run from the decision, or from a later hide or deletion if that is more recent. Reviewers can see the comment text and your public handle, and every decision is recorded in a private log. When you report a comment or mute another handle, only our reviewers see the report; the other person is not told. Comment reports are kept with the reporter identifier while the case is open, and become eligible for deletion 30 days after a case is resolved, or 90 days if it is never reviewed. These are eligibility periods; cleanup may run later.

Guest comments and comment Love or Diss belong to this browser cookie, not to a Google account. If the cookie is lost or expires, ownership is not transferred to a new cookie or to a signed-in account. We cannot reattach those comments for you. Operators can still hide a comment after a private report. Text you already saw cannot be taken back from another device or a screenshot.

We keep a keyed hash of the IPv4 address or IPv6 /64 network with guest comments; if we suspend a guest, we block the commenter id until lifted and refuse new guest comments from that network for 30 days or until lifted, without keeping the raw cookie or IP address or using device fingerprints. A lifted block becomes eligible for deletion 90 days later. A suspended account cannot sign in, post, or delete the account from the account page. To ask for deletion while suspended, send a private report.

Your account comments, reports, mutes and any follow or notification settings are tied to your account. Signing in alone does not move anonymous votes. Only if you preview and confirm a migration do browser votes move into your account. You can then sign in on another device to view, change or remove your saved choices, and future votes while signed in use your account. The old browser cookie is retired for person voting and cannot manage those votes, even after account deletion. Its guest comment ownership is kept; migration does not move guest comments or comment ratings into your account.

Deleting your account

When you ask us to delete your account, it is signed out and hidden everywhere at once, and your account comments stop being shown. Deleting your account queues removal of its migrated and later account votes and their contributions to totals; those totals may remain until cleanup runs. Anonymous votes that were not migrated are kept. Stored account comments, follows, notifications, settings and the Google account link are queued for later removal. We do not claim that stored records are already physically gone, and we do not promise a number of days or a running cleanup timer. Backups may still hold copies until their own retention period ends. If we restore from a backup, we replay the record of deletions before anything is shown publicly again.

We do not send email or push notifications. If follows are available, notes about people you follow appear only inside the site while you are signed in.

Shared growth

On a small number of profiles, a shared character grows from anonymous support points. A Love or Diss vote does not add a support point, and a support point is not a vote and does not change the vote results. Adding a support point uses the same anonymous browser identifier as voting, together with a Turnstile abuse check.

Adding a support point stores one record for that UTC day. The record is identified by a keyed, one-way representation of your browser identifier combined with that day, so the records for different days are not linked to each other. It holds the day and the profiles you supported on it — at most three profiles, and one support point per profile per day — and becomes eligible for automatic deletion 7 days after that day ends. A separate per-day count for each profile holds no browser identifier and becomes eligible for automatic deletion 35 days after that day ends. The running support total, the level, the unlocked items and the level milestones stored for each profile hold no browser identifier and are kept while this feature runs.

Public pages show only those per-profile aggregates: the level, the shared support total, the count for the current day, the unlocked items and the level milestone pages. No public page attributes a support point to a browser, an account or a person, and no page shows how many support points you added. When you create a ranking share link, the stored snapshot holds the profile, its rank, the number it was ranked on and the capture time, holds no browser identifier, and becomes eligible for automatic deletion 7 days after it is captured.

Service providers

Google Cloud hosts the application and stores its records. Cloudflare provides domain and network services and Turnstile abuse checks. Control your vote

Use “Remove my vote” on a profile to remove your current vote. For account votes, sign in to the same account; for anonymous votes, use the same browser cookie. Clearing cookies removes the browser’s identifier but does not remove votes already stored, and may prevent you from managing anonymous votes. Cookie expiry does not automatically delete stored votes.

Retention and requests

Active votes are kept to maintain the results, and this service does not promise a fixed automatic deletion period for votes. Administrator action logs for reports record an action and its target but not report text or an email address, and become eligible for deletion 90 days after they are written. Catalog change history is kept. Rate-limit records become eligible for automatic deletion 24 hours after their limit window resets. Storage cleanup is asynchronous, so deletion may occur later. Backups may retain removed records until their retention period ends.

To ask about access, correction, deletion, or a profile’s use of personal information, send a privacy report. Anonymous records may be difficult to identify after a cookie has been cleared. We may need more information to locate the relevant record.

Analytics and advertising

This service does not include advertising or optional analytics cookies. We evaluate the service using operational records and aggregate voting activity. Any material change will be reflected in this notice.
